:) Well, from testing it... I would say hold off onto your wallet. I would say wait 'till next year. Vista is good but there are still lots of bugs and glitzes that Microsoft has to work on to make patches available soon.

with regards to malware, spyware, spams etc. i think it can protect the user from these attacks if one would not intentionally download malware/spyware programs. just go to "safe" sites.... as for hard core users, it's a must to install anti-virus, -spywares. but conventional browsing would be a "pleasurable" experience. most of the hardware drivers are now developed for vista compatibility. i'm using a gigabyte motherboard GA-8I955X Royal and 3.0GHz CPU with 2.5GB DDR2 (667MHz), 500GB SATA HDD. my only problem before was the LAN driver and didn't downloaded any. (e.g. lan driver, sound, etc.) but then it was a "cinch"

vista needs a lot of RAM so it would be wise to have at least 2GB of ram.

TRY THIS, KUMADRE. GO TO THE WEBSITE OF YOUR COMPUTER BRAND AND FIND OUT IF YOUR LAPTOP IS CAPABLE. YOU HAVE TO CHECK THE PRODUCT NUMBER OF YOUR LAPTOP AND SEE IF IT IS INCLUDED IN THEIR LIST OF VISTA-CAPABLE/VISTA-READY PRODUCTS DEPENDING ON WHETHER IT IS FOR BASIC, BUSINESS, HOME, STUDENT, ULTIMATE, ETC. IF IT IS, THEN YOU CAN GET THE SOFTWARE FR0M BEST BUY OR CIRCUIT CITY AND HAVE IT INSTALLED BY THEIR GEEK SQUAD.

I HAD AN OPTION FOR A FREE DOWNLOAD OF VISTA BUT I COULD NOT DO IT BECAUSE THEY DON'T RECOGNIZE THE PRODUCT NUMBER OF MY LAPTOP. NOW THE FREE DOWNLOAD OPTION HAS EXPIRED LAST MONTH. TOO BAD :!: I HAVE TO BUY IT NOW IF I CHOOSE TO HAVE IT IN MY LAPTOP.

Windows Vista Kills Networks

- In combination with outdated routers

Integrating a computer running Windows Vista into your existing network may cause an array of problems. Windows Vista can manage to act as the perfect break, slowing down network

connections and Internet connection speeds. But additionally, users will experience gradual loss of network performance, which means that the initial issues they confront will only get worse and worse. And this is not the end of it. Users will also face lack of support for new features and for networking technologies. They will also experience re-occurring and frequent errors on web pages that functioned flawlessly from Windows XP and reduced overall network performance.

Microsoft has confirmed that Windows Vista is the cause and that the problem resides in the use of an outdated router. "An outdated network router may not function correctly when you use it together with new networking features in Windows Vista," informed Microsoft. In some cases, the network router will stop functioning completely and require a reset.

The Redmond Company has explained that this is in fact an incompatibility issue, adding to support problems that the operating system has faced since the commercial availability on January 30, 2007. With Windows Vista, Microsoft has introduced a new network stack and new networking features. This is the reason why an outdated router will not offer complete compatibility with Vista.

"For example, Windows Vista uses UPnP-certified standards much more than Microsoft Windows XP. An outdated or less robust network router may be unable to handle the increased UPnP traffic that is generated by Windows Vista. Additionally, Windows Vista uses Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) and IPv6 transition technologies. The network router may use Symmetric Network Address Translation (NAT). Symmetric NAT is incompatible with IPv6. The router may function incorrectly when you use applications that rely on IPv6 technologies, such as Microsoft Windows Meeting Space," added Microsoft.

i like the apple commercial. when you upgrade to a newer version of windows, you are most definitely going to upgrade your hardware as well.

here is my personal experience with Vista...

my iphone's i tunes no longer works. i reinstalled it to no avail.
my old anti-virus and firewall are not compatible and there are no known patches as of now. i was advised by microsh!t's este microsoft's tech advisor to buy new software.
my lacerte 2006 software is not supported. silly me did not remember to research this. i had to uninstall vista and redo one month's worth of data that was lost (yup i forgot to back up my files so shoot me)...

THANKS, CUPID (HEY, WELCOME BACK, BROTHER! WERE YOU ON VACATION?) FOR SHARING.

IN MY CASE, I DECIDED NOT TO GET VISTA YET. I GUESS I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL PROBABLY MOST OF THE PATCHES ARE AVAILABLE. OR I MAY GET IT FOR A COMPLETELY NEW PC.

hmmmmmnn... not giving up has its rewards.... i found the problem why the audio is not working.... although windows 7 comes with generic audio drivers, i have to change/reinstall drivers manually in order to come out with the desired results.
so far windows seven is running like a breeze... speed-wise and performance is ok

OKiDoki! In my area, Windows 7 will come in late October. New computer purchases now can opt for it as an upgrade which will take effect on expected date above.

go for it apo daguerr... for new pc purchases, this maybe the "fastest, easiest" windows so far...
although there are occasional hang-ups, the system/laptop (lenovo 3000 n100) which windows 7 was installed in was a little bit old... (hangs up when i use ym, download, internet browsing and playing media player at the same time, although this can be attributed to the laptop itself not the o.s.)

with regards to hard/heavy usage such as multi-tasking, downloading and video editing will test its mettle if it's gonna be a "cinch". i have yet to try in my desktop...

the verdict: 4 out of 5 stars
