Anyone undergoing MS studies right now abroad, esp. US schools? What are the processes that you passed through? How much will be the cost? Any scholarships? Any tips or advice. Frankly speaking...adda planok to studying in a US school. I plan to take up MS Meteorology or Atmospheric Science...no adda kwartak.
PS: I chose the two fields as I got a very weird fascination of the atmosphere, particularly typhoons. I kinda love typhoons (not their impacts, of course) a bit less than my love for summers.
Gee, that's so profound :D
MS Meteorology or Atmospheric Science! Totyal :D
Kinda cool bro.
So pag tinanong ka, anong work mo?
Sagot: taga huli ng bagyo. :D LOL
I hope you're Ok.
Yan, off-topic na tuloy.
hehehehe

Totyal amputek!
Ikaw? Laging walang load? E ang yaman mo nga dyan!!
storm chaser? now, that's a cool YM ID. hahahaha
wala ba sa UP?
Andaming gastusin e.
hehehehehe

Here in the US, meteorologists end up being the weather person in the early and late evening news :-) I'm not sure if you're old enough to remember Ernie Baron but I think he didn't have to have MS Meteorologist tucked under his belt to be the best at what he did (someone correct me if I am wrong - and I might be).
This is not to discourage you as this is just my personal opinion / observation . But if you do become a meteorologist, try not to be the weather man on GMA or ABS-CBN. Okay?

scholarship: yes, it's available to anyone (even to non u.s. citizens and non-residents. you just have to find your sponsor)
government grants: no.
cost: it varies. state universities charge somewhere around $700 - $1500 per semester (not including books). and that was a few years ago.
private universities/colleges: $350 per unit up to thousands of dollars excluding books.
ivy league schools (not part of the above): arm and leg
keep in mind that schools charge more for non-resident students.

beef, why dont you try applying here in japan via the monbukagakusho research grants? Visit the website of the Japan Embassy in the Phils. Main requirements are, a research proposal, your official documents plus you have to take an exam in english and japanese (but it is ok if you dont know japanese, youll learn it here, the japanes test is just a formality). If you hurry, you can still beat the May 30 deadline. When I cam here, the person beside me was a volcanologist and the other at my side was a meteorologist. how lucky can i get? hehehe

It's so nice to be back!!! Why don't you try asking the embassy if they grant scholarships? My professor told me that they do. I have to find out myself too. Good luck beef.

Masyadong mahal, awan karta ni Beef, e. But luckily, UP Diliman might accept me. Now what should I take...
thesis or non-thesis?
Originally gusto ko non-thesis, pero the head suggested na kunin ko ang thesis for research purposes. Hmmm, decisions, decisions.

1. Research proposal --- well my dear kahit saang school ka magpunta kung higher education ang habol mo ay may writing of research proposal or any proposal for that matter..unless of course may equivalent na course work na lang.
2. Test in Japanese --- formality lang to.kung ala ka alam sa japanese, you are given time to study it in japan once you are accepted...all part of the grant.
3. Vision requirements --- ano bang problema sa mata mo? di ba nakukuha ng glasses? kailangan bang 20/20 sa marine engg? oh well...you wont know till you try buddy....

I'm planning to enroll on a NON-THESIS option sa UP.

That`s good beef....advise lang, if you have any plans of going to PhD....take the Thesis option..... PhD is all about research....pramis.
if i remember right regarding jan sa vision requirement e parang there is this page sa medical form na dedicated for the eyes and you will have to go to the eye doctor for your eye test and they give you points for those tests....iba iba mga lenses scans...although im not so sure...long time ago. :)

I don't really like doing thesis again for financial and time constraints, but I'll consider it.

I'll be taking Meteorology.
Speaking of thesis, got any idea for a good one?

Bubuhayin ko ito, anyone can help me in the future?
for now e baka hanggang moral support na lang muna...meteorology is like the other side of the universe for me.try to look if there are open universities that offer your course.pero parang wala masyado.and if you want to study abroad e talagang my thesis/research talaga. i guess you'll just have to psyche yourself into doing a thesis.
