extended warranty takes effect at the time of sale. not after the regular manufacturer's warranty expires. an example would be a new car. the car manufacturer gives a free warranty, which is usually:

4 years or 50,000 miles (basic) and
6 years or 70,000 miles (powertrain)

the car dealership would then try to sell you an ESP (extended service protection). the cost is over $1,000 for 7 years or 75,000 miles (which ever comes first). if you consider the FREE warranty from the car manufacturer, you're really buying:

3 years or 25,000 miles (basic) and
1 year or 5,000 miles (powertrain)

is it worth it? maybe or maybe not....

Either I heard the salesguy wrong or he lied when he said "extended warranty takes effect after the standard manuf. warranty".
If extended warranty takes effect during the period of the standard manufacturer's warranty, I don't see any logic here. Good thing we didn't take it! :lol:

With the rapid evolution of technology, you may be better off buying a brand new one in case the unit becomes defective (after the std manufacturer's warranty) rather than having it repaired or replaced.

Yup!
You'll probably spend more by buying that extended warranty than having to buy one after a year. Tech prices are dropping each year.

I don't usually buy the extended warranty! Is it worth it? Well it all lies on your fortune. Most new appliances hardly breaks but there usually at least one or two that breaks faster or sooner. If you got those, oh well, better luck next time.

I think it only applies to some.
You can tell this by looking at their "ugali" more than their physical characteristics.
