Diosdado Macapagal changed Independence Day from July 4th 2 June 12th...the date General Emilio Aguinaldo proclaimed independence of the Filipinos in Kawit, Cavite in 1898...

I'm a little confuse here.
OK, so when did the Philippines achieve a true, genuine independence?
Please educate me!

June 12, 1898, was the date Emilio Aguinaldo declared our Independence from Spain((350 years of Spanish colonialism), and the birth of the Philippine Republic. For the first time, the Philippine flag, sewn in Hongkong, was unfurled, and the first time 2 that Julian Felipe's Marcha Nacional Filipna, which became the Philippine national anthem was played.

Before Diosdado Macapagal changed the date of the celebration of Philippine Independence...we celebrated it on the 4th of July... the date when the Philippines gained Independence from the United States after their 50 years rule.. (July 4 1946), after the war(Japanese)....looking back... our forefathers had tough times fighting for our freedom... and everyday, I thank God, and our great great grandfathers for giving us our freedom.
