In my high school batch those who are really inteligent are now successful in their chosen career. Those who were just the teacher's favorites are still there, istambay. But some of those who were very quiet are now successful as well.
Our valedictorian is now an attorney. Congratulations gayam gayyem, if you still remember me. Our buloktorian before is still there in ilocos istambay ken adu ti annak nan. Mahilig mapan makibingo.

Mahilig mapan makibingo.U r ryt Letlet...most of the honor roll in my class were the teachers fav. & I never heard what happened to them...the buloktorians, who had brains?.. most of them are successful...in their chosen field...accountants, Eng., nurses, teachers, lawyers, politician, most of us keep in contact via the internet...the teachers pet also known as.. the prom queen??...she had a brush with the law...she fooled lots of guys, took their money, promising that she will get them jobs abroad...wow she did really used her brains !...but oh well she got her share.. she was jailed..I just don't know how many months...

When I went home 4 vacation, they asked me 2 be their grduation speaker..I said yes... I told the crowd, how these teachers were wrong in their perception of the word , brainy, genius, smart, intellingent, etc, etc....I did not want 2 hurt someone elses feelings, but I know some or most of the graduates knew what I was talking about, and they told me after the ceremony, that my speech was a wake up call to them, and that they will do better in college, so that one day they can also go back , and show everyone that they made it! In fairness 2 my teachers... at least I had one teacher who really saw that I had the guts 2 succeed, and that I had brains as well... Thank U Ma'am! :)

hmmm okay nice commentaries ( by the way my mom is an elementary school teacher) and yes, han na mabalbaliwan ta adda a talaga suruten na a pagalagadan... and the rule if not wrong goes along way in the decs line. sa college naman this residency also applies but at least it is understandable kasi not all universities have the same mode of grading and standards.

and yes a student must be evaluated on his performance but see i think the theory behind is, the performance history of the student is needed. and the history goes a long way if you are in the same school..kaso pag grade 5 ka tapos saka ka lang nagtransfer nung grade 6 ka kahit gano katalino ka pa, yun ang hindi pwedeng mag valedictorian. try mo samahan ng donation baka pede pa hehehe

for them it does...and in college it really does...it takes more than two ( ithink about 3 years at least) to decide whether they will award you the laudes or not. at least for that applies for most provincial state universities..

and then again, for our logic and evaluation, it really doesnt, give me a day and i can tell but of course we dont ddo it that way hehehe

i think it depends on the situation and the person itself. What if the person who achieve the first place/valedictorian wasn't able to reach College, because of a personal reason like........"agtrabahuak paylang tunno sumaruno met ni ading ko nga agbasa...agsardengak paylang ta pagbasaek isuna.." ket no kasano no nakaaremen..mapigilan na pay ngata...maiaawan kan ah?.we cannot deny most of cases who weren't able to step in college is because of lack of goals and visions. Touch, agpada kay man ti kasasaad tay anakko. We've been moving a lot habang dumakdakkel da. No adda kami diay Manila idi, she's always the first uray no agsabasabali ti school na. No itransfer ko diay Ilocos, adda iti top ten but uray na la nga igurigur ti sakit ti nakemna ta saan nga isu ti first although she thinks she deserve to be the first. Naggidiatan ti MM ken Ilocos. Anyway, she's running for HS Valedictorian. Bareng no mamaintain na. As of the third periodicals, she's still in the top ngem who knows, di ngamin?
