Hey guys! It's been a while! (Been very busy lately {kano!})
Just want to share my thoughts about DSL vs Cable!
First of all I have a DSL, but that doesn't mean my ideas are bias. xDSL are not broadcasted as oppose to Cable. ADSL, for instance, is asynchronous, meaning the download time can be different from the upload time. Now, here is the deal. Cable offers a really high speed download and upload stream. In fact, it can go higher than 1.5 MBps up and down (Full duplex). That's already a T1 connection. On the other hand, DSL have a "fixed" stream. (Again, fix doesn't really mean it stays that way, just a terminology). xDSL still uses broadcast, but only on the subnet, as not to the network (as Cable).
Here is the catch! As mentioned by redd, if a lot of household in your area have a Cable, the 1.5 MBps or more bandwidth is shared amongst. So, the speed is inconsistent. If you use your Cable maybe in the morning where everybody is asleep. You are probably utilizing the whole bandwidth - a very high speed connection.
DSL on the other hand is good if you want to have a web site ran from your server at home. Because you can order upload stream 384 Kbps and a download of 1.5 Mbps. It is also a broadcast but it doesn't really shared among the users in your neighborhood.
To end my blah blah's, it is up to you to decide. Cable is really fast, but remember it is broadcast (the 1.5 bandwidth is share within the neighborhood). DSL is directly connected to your own telephone line, so it is all yours. You can also change the upload stream, while you Cable has a single bandwidth available. Here in the mainland, the basic DSL is cheaper than the Cable (as far as where I am living). But a better package of DSL could cost a bunch.
Hope this helps...

I've had both. Switched from DSL to cable. I live in downtown Honolulu, which is generally more densely populated than the rest of the island. Cable is still faster, even in peak times.

Cable drawback is, you have to pay extra if plan to share your connection.
I still like DSL. Everyone in the house can surf the net at the same time :)
