Maybe that's what Letlet meant....her pc...not the internet....
Been using the pc for a long time, first because of my hubby's business, we started with 95, then 98 ...now I am using windows XP..I came for vacation and gave away my windows 98 to my sister who is a teacher in Banna, with all the accessories(printer to cam..blah blah blah).. the 95, my husband just left it in our drive way with the trash, 5 minutes later, someone picked it up! That's the easiest way for us to get rid of things we want to throw away...most of the time.

Transcript: Vice President Gore on CNN's 'Late Edition'
BLITZER: I want to get to some of the substance of domestic and international issues in a minute, but let's just wrap up a little bit of the politics right now.
Why should Democrats, looking at the Democratic nomination process, support you instead of Bill Bradley, a friend of yours, a former colleague in the Senate? What do you have to bring to this that he doesn't necessarily bring to this process?
GORE: Well, I will be offering -- I'll be offering my vision when my campaign begins. And it will be comprehensive and sweeping. And I hope that it will be compelling enough to draw people toward it. I feel that it will be.
But it will emerge from my dialogue with the American people. I've traveled to every part of this country during the last six years. During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system.

1957
The USSR launches Sputnik, the first artificial earth satellite. In response, the United States forms the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) within theDepartment of Defense (DoD) to establish US lead in science and technology applicable to the military.

1962
RAND Paul Baran, of the RAND Corporation (a government agency), was commissioned by the U.S. Air Force to do a study on how it could maintain its command and control over its missiles and bombers, after a nuclear attack. This was to be a military research network that could survive a nuclear strike, decentralized so that if any locations (cities) in the U.S. were attacked, the military could still have control of nuclear arms for a counter-attack.
Baran's finished document described several ways to accomplish this. His final proposal was a packet switched network.
"Packet switching is the breaking down of data into datagrams or packets that are labeled to indicate the origin and the destination of the information and the forwarding of these packets from one computer to another computer until the information arrives at its final destination computer. This was crucial to the realization of a computer network. If packets are lost at any given point, the message can be resent by the originator."

1968
ARPA awarded the ARPANET contract to BBN. BBN had selected a Honeywell minicomputer as the base on which they would build the switch. The physical network was constructed in 1969, linking four nodes: University of California at Los Angeles, SRI (in Stanford), University of California at Santa Barbara, and University of Utah. The network was wired together via 50 Kbps circuits.

1996 idi damok unay ti makainternet. naminsan lang. dialup lang. diak malagip dagidi napanak a sites idin.
1997 ken 1998, regular nga agininternetakon ta adda leased line ti pagobraak idin.
Did you know that WWW is just part of the Internet? Don't get confuse with www with the Internet. Internet is the whole interconnections of different WANs. www is just a sub-domain of the root internet.
Anyway, I've been using computer since the old DOS world. I got to the Intranet (original design by the ARPANET, as previously mentioned) by early 95's. I first used Internet 1996 using the slow Bauds modem. I officially used the Internet in 1997 with my 56K modem. AOL page was one of the pages I first seen using the Internet.
The question should now be is: Who is now using IPv6 to connect to the Internet?
Kilroy

No, no , no, no....
The question is:
What is IPv6?
Sorry. I'm not computer-savvy :(
The current internet and network today uses IPv4. This is where you will see your IP address that looks like xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (e.g. 10.123.42.12). This version uses 32-bit. It has a lot of vulnerabilities that leads almost to exploitation such as Denial of Service and others. Also, as the Internet continues to exponentially expand, IPv4 will soon all used all its allocated address which is 2^32, which means that the only available IP is 4,294,967,296. With IPv6, it uses 128-bit. Go figure!
So it will be better, I hope.

Yes, that's the main thing. Sorry to divert the topic to a different discussion. I'll route it back to the original topic.
