So did the dual citizenship bill changed your life as an expat yet?

It sure has changed my retirement perspective. I've thought of really retiring in this country where I've taken a residence but with this bill, it shed new light to the idea of retiring to my own native land.

Not yet, but it will. Although I have not registered (at least not yet) to vote in the coming elections, I'm sure this bill will benefit all Filipino expatriates. Owning a business will be a lot easier and with the peso-dollar ratio being very lopsided - owning a business should be productive.

I think this is an important bill in the sense that our Filipino brothers living in foreign countries can participate in elections whereby their votes can not be "bought" and their decisions cannot be influenced by political hoodlums.

Don't you think?

Many people doesn't realize this, including myself. :) But do you know that of the thousand Filipinos living in Hawaii, only about a hundred (according to news) bothered to register?

I don't think the Phil. government did a good job as far as information dissemination is concerned. Some of my "karrubas" didn't even hear about it. :) :)

Truthfully, I don't quite understand how this bill works.

Say I've become a Canadian Citizen, has this law automatically given back my Phil citizenship? Even if I did not register?

I think the registration is just for being able to vote - I think. I'll have to verify and let you know.

Yeah, if they were so sincere on this one, there shouldn't be any "strings attached".

Yeah, what about those children of inter-marriages? Like a Filipno immigrant in Canada who married a Canadian? Will these children automatically become Filipino citizens, too?

I believe its automatic, unless you willfully revoke your Filipino citizenship, say in writing.

You should verify.
