Hon. Jose Evangelista from Paoay was the governor of Ilocos Norte during his time. A very respected statesman, he was a very good friend of my father. My father was very poor and in rags but it did not matter to the governor. He is the godfather of my one and only living sister. According to my elder brother, the governor used to park his car often right in front of our cogon hut (kalapaw) in Currimao and neighbors were very surprised when they recognized who the visitor was, the governor in person and no bodyguard with him!
I know Dr. Isabelo Evangelista, MD here in Chicago, but he is from Maasin, Southern Leyte. According to him, his grandparents are from Ilocos. He has three children - all married now.
FYI, auree.
