Let us offer prayers and condolences to the families left out due to stampede tragedy happened this morning, February 4, Saturday at the Ultra.

Seventy-nine people were killed in a stampede as they scrambled to get into the Wowowee show offering cash and other prizes.

Most of the dead were elderly women. The stampede occurred as people scrambled to get tickets for a popular television gameshow. One child was killed, hospital officials said.

The victims were crushed against a closed steel gate at the bottom of a slope or trampled underfoot.

The crush at the Ultra stadium came when organisers of the first anniversary celebration of the popular gameshow Wowowee began handing out tickets to people, many of whom had been camping outside for days.

Thousands of people were waiting for entry tickets for the "Wowowee" show which promised a one-million peso jack pocket, a house and some minibuses for the lucky ones.

Touch, let me correct you, if I may. Money is not the root of all evils. The love of money is the root of all evils. While we say about putting our eyes first to Mammon (money) instead to our Master (God), we also have to be rational on this type of scenarios.

I, personally, have dropped tears when I was watching this on TV. I found myself over and over again being on their behalf. We can generalize that money or "comfort" are what these people were trying to grab for. But let us not think, that because of it; caused them their lives. I know for sure, many of the people there "PRAYED to GOD" to win something or have something. After all, how can we find the grace that God has set before us if we don't ACT?

Our kababayans (kapuso man o kapamilya) were there to seek for HELP. Put yourself in this situation - you went there early, camp and brought your food and water just so you can go in first. Some are from the province, some are from main city. Perhaps most of them wear their best dresses, too. Or maybe their only shoes and polo just to go there...

Guys, let's join hand in hand to pray for all of them. If this is a wake up, just like Touch said, I hope this is a wake up call for our Government to do someting about our poverty...

My relatives from Vintar just got back from attending the wake and interment of my dearest auntie.

Inevitably, another unfortunate thing happened early this morning. My first cousin had a stroke last night. He was rushed to the hospital but he died early this 4:00 in the afternoon..

this reminds me of my tatang...when he retires from govt service .he was active in the community church service..a layman..

now connot do his daily task ..bec of illness ..diabeties,kidney problem,blood pressure problem. in and out of the hospital.

but what im proud of my tatang is he raised us 6 children.

I WAS STILL AT MY JOBSITE 4 HOURS AGO WHEN I GOT COUSIN SUPERGLOW'S TEXT INFORMING ME OF HER DAD'S DEMISE AND I WAS STRUCK WITH DREADFUL SURPRISE BECAUSE I THOUGHT THE GOOD MAYOR WAS DOING GREAT ALL THIS TIME. ANYWAY, MAY HIS SOUL REST

my wife txted me today to tell me the bad news about my ninong celin's passing.. I was at work and i was stunned!
Ninong Celin and my father served the town of currimao together back in the 70's. My mother told me alot of stories about the two being close to each other, having all those project for the betterment of our small town of currimao..
i came to know ninong celin whenever my mother brought me or family attended his birthdays and events we were invited to, at the d'coral beach resort in pias sur currimao. he had the same birthday with my father. my ninong celin was a great man...everyone respected him for his dedication and fulfilment as our mayor, for his hard work, for his love and respect for the people of currimao..
my family is very close to him and his family, that's why, he was not only my godfather in birth, but he was also my godfather when i got married!...
right after i came home from work last night, i called my mother aning and she was crying as she told me story!. she said " awan ni ninong mo a celin nen baroc"...i felt as if my father died!.. i was speachless for a moment, we both were.
ninong celin helped my family a whole lot.. from his civic duties and his undying love for his supporters and friends, he was always there for all of us! not many peolple know but he gave a major contribution in building our church in pias norte. without hin, we wouldn't have our church today, without him, some of our ralatives wouldn't have been able to come to the u.s. and for that matter, i wouldn't have been able to reach where i am today, without his help to my family!
for my family and all the families he had helped, ninong celin is our hero, for he didn't looked at you no matter who you might be, but he considered us all, as his friends no matter who we were...
ninong, thank you very much for all the things you have done for my family and for town of currimao..
we will truly miss you and we will always love you no matter where you are!...

A UN sponsored relief operation is bringing food and other supply in the devastated country but some of these were seized by the government's military. So sad, indeed.
