Analysis & Design. She was the only teacher that we call Ma'am. She didn't want to be called miss kasi hindi raw siya saleslady kung hindi teacher...hi, hi, taray.

One teacher that I have great respect for is Mr. Urbano Pasion from Laoag. I was an Elementary grades drop-out and had myself resigned to doing farm chores rather than schooling. Mr. Pasion was rounding up school age kids in the neighborhood and he stumbled upon me. He engaged me in a heart to heart talk under a nearby tamarind tree. He must have discovered some potentials in me during our talk and he tried hard to convince me to go back to school. I was only up to grade four that time and I was already fifteen years old. And just to get me to school, he promised to put me in grade six instead of grade five. "You will easily make it to grade six and you will top the class eventually", he told me. I did not believe him at first. I thought it's just one of the tricks he had just to get kids back to school. "Just try to come to school after the rice planting (raep) season, and if you won't like what goes on there, you're free to drop out again", he said. And so I tried, and I found out that I was learning a lot of things: arithmetic, social studies, grammar, elem. science, geography, and handicrafts. Man, did I miss these in my idle years! And so I had to cram up all these things in my head double-time. Mr. Pasion was there all the time, monitoring my progress, and was in constant talk with my teacher. He was not my teacher because he was teaching grade five and he put me in grade six. But he was happy about me, always smiling. And because of his tact and easy-going manner, (mammartek met) we became friends. When he learned that I knew how to accompany a song with a guitar, he often picked me up to go harana in Surgi - it's quite a walk from Abkir but it is where his object of love lived. And she happened to be my third degree cousin, that I learned on a much, much later date.

Graduation came but he was not there anymore. He was transfered to teach in Laoag, his hometown. But what he predicted for me was true. This I give due credit to him. Thank you, Mr. Urbano Pasion, wherever you are now, for helping me out.
