INOL re-design in progress... II

A new face of INOL is coming soon....

INOL is moving from Flashy animations to a neat simple graphics. Why? As much as we enjoy animations and the features of Flash, it uses more resources than smaller graphics. The new INOL face will hopefully eliminate some of these lags and errors (Flash in IE). The scrolling blocks will also be replaced with less-resource block.

Although the new INOL face comes with more scripts (that could delay the load of the homepage), it will be noticeably slower only on the first few tries (I hope :) ).

While redesigning the face, some new features and modules will be bundled with the facelift. Some are done, some are not even started yet, but hopefully all will be completed by the deadline. Here are some of those:

-- Cool menus
-- Search functionality, partnered with Google
-- Chatroom modules
-- mp3 modules
-- Calendar
-- scripts to Bookmark, Make Homepage, etc.
-- and more...

Coming soon.... by June 1st 2006 (Pacific Time)

Hehehe, you are really a very good observant. It was just a small change to the Forum, thought no one would notice that 'till the "face lift" of INOL on Thursday (June 1st).

That is in preparation for the change that I am doing. In addition, I have also included to show your Hometown, if you have this one setup in your profile.

I have added it last night - the box header on top of the forum. You don't need to go to the homepage to view the last ten posts in the forum. Just scroll up and it is provided to you on the first box of the table above. I originally coded it as a scrolling block, but it was messing up with the anchor on each post, so decided to just have you scroll down manually.

In addition, the second box is a scrolling arrays of INOLers' faces. This is pulled up from the Photo Album under INOLer's faces. Upload yours and we will see you in that box.

The third is Random Quotes, from RandomQuotes.com.

ANNOUNCEMENT:

INOL will be down for maintenance on July 28th, Saturday 9:00 PM PDT (UTC -8 ). The following design plan is provided out to all to know what are the upcoming changes outlined in this Maintenance Project.

I. Phase I - Moved all files to interim domain.
This will be implemented tonight. During the move, INOL will be unavailable for few hours. There will be a progress indication in the homepage of the it's next availability.

II. Phase II - INOL has moved (temporarily or not, we'll see)
After the completion of Phase I, almost immediately, INOL will resume online on the new domain. All files and settings should remain intact. But life is inevitable, if there are broken stuffs, please let me know.

III. Phase III - Upgrade existing Hosting ISP
This normally take days to complete. The running INOL should not be affected, since it is running on a separate and different hosting ISP. This phase is invisible to users.

Phase IV - ISP Assessment and Evaluation
If the upgrade suffice the need to move back, INOL will again move to the old Hosting ISP. INOL would then be unavailable at that time. Unavailability should be shorter.

Phase V - INOL Maintenance II
The move will be implemented. Shorter outage. The same process as Phase I, just the other way now.

Phase VI - Redesign and Engine upgrade
This will completely overhaul INOL to a new design, look, and core engine. This takes time to engineer the change. If successful, INOL will be running faster and better. It will also provide more features and more Ilocos-oriented. It may also provide more services to members, such as personal blogs bearing INOL name, etc. Downtime will be seen again.

Phase VII - Management Change
After completing redesign and upgrade of INOL, new sets of management would emerge. Some active members who have been loyal to INOL will be granted Admins, Publishers, and Moderators. They will also be provided with their own domains to show their personal blogs or world.

I aim to achieve this in small amount of time, as I am running out of it. Let's pray that INOL will continue to be here and to serve fellow Ilocanoes around the world...

Sounds like a big task is upon your shoulders but with your expertise and adequate knowledge on this field, we are confident that the transitions back and forth from the old to the new and then to the old again will run smoothly. The move is complete!

But there are few bugs and errors during the move. The following are still not functional and they are being worked on. I will put updates here when they are good to go.

Ilocos Norte Gallery - the files and settings have to be individually checked. This will take long.

INOL Shout box - the database table is not working. This will be resolved soon.

zumzum, nadlaw ko met tattay madama ti troubleshooting ko. I am not sure what was wrong with the code either. I wrote that application myself, ngem tattan ket diak met maawatanen.. lumakay da taon a talaga.

I will add this to the issues. I will work into it asap. Thank you zumzum.

The mp3 player for Ilocano Musics is now fixed.

The musics are still running from my personal websites as uploading those musics to the new site is taking a lot of time. It's been two hours since, and it looks like 6 hours more to go.

So the mp3 player should be working now. Will change the source tonight, which really no-effect or invisible to users.
